The Aquila Care Trust
Very often, those experiencing relationship breakdown,
separation or divorce feel a great need of support from others who are going through the same thing. Feelings of isolation, fear for the future and uncertainty about how to "pick up the pieces" are very natural and common reactions. We are delighted therefore, to be able to let you know of a
network of independent support groups, operating in locations across the UK, who give support to people in this situation.

Each of these groups had their origins in the Aquila Care Trust, a
registered charity which existed between 1991 and 2007 to support those experiencing the trauma of relationship breakdown. These groups are all run by men and women who have been through this experience themselves and
recovered. They offer support, understanding, guidance, care and
companionship to help you put your life back together.

Their support services include a programme called Breakthrough, run either over 8 weeks or as a residential or non-residential weekend programme, designed to help you meet with others in the same situation and to explore together the main
emotional and practical issues you face.
The aim of Breakthrough is to help participants develop strategies for coping and give them hope that they can
move ahead positively with their lives.

Divorce Recovery Workshop
The Divorce Recovery Workshop runs as self-help groups throughout the UK. Led by volunteers, who themselves have experienced divorce, each group has a course of six weekly sessions offered at intervals throughout the year.

DRW aims to help individuals come to terms with
a relationship that has irretrievably broken down. The workshop
enables people to better understand what they are going through, provides them with support from others in the same situation and assists in the process of readjustment in their lives.

The depth of emotional suffering of the newly separated or divorced is not generally realised. While society allows the bereaved to adjust, the divorced are often expected to pull themselves together and move on in a matter of weeks. DRW provides a secure environment for people to express what they are feeling and to gain comfort from others who know what they are going through.
