Review of Divorce Aid by Relationship Scotland,
a merger between Relate Scotland and Family Mediation Scotland
There’s something for everyone with a personal or professional
interest in separation and divorce at Divorce Aid. Part
no-nonsense repository of practical information, advice, news
and support for adults, children and teenagers, part new-agey
melange of quotes, pictures, audio links to soothing sounds and
advice from the Barefoot Doctor... this user-friendly, colourful
site has lots of links to many other websites and help-lines as
well as a large archive of news articles and features.
Scotland has its own section on the legal pages, with links
to CAB, Family Mediation, Stepfamily Scotland and other
agencies. A dedicated Mediation section explains the process,
albeit promoting specific private mediation companies.
The site has a team of regular contributors including lawyers, mediators, psychotherapists, psychologists, social
workers and a GP and includes reflections from people who have gone through separation and divorce.
In Divorce Aid’s own words: “From small beginnings in 1999, Divorce Aid now helps thousands of people across the
UK and internationally every week. Our motto is: ‘Whatever your situation and wherever you are, we hope to provide
divorce advice, support and information on any matter concerning you.’ Experts from the legal and therapy professions
enable us to provide this service by volunteering their time. The welfare of the child is paramount and we promote
mediation and counselling as well as good, professional legal advice. We also promote collaborative family law as a
new dignified approach to divorce.''
