It's not your fault

No, it is not your fault.

It is not your fault.

It is not your fault.

It is really nothing to do with you.
It's a grown-up thing.
Nothing you have done or said has caused this.
Stop trying to think why this has happened.
Talk to your parents. They love and care for you.

John went to bed every night and cried when he was told his parents were separating. He was very sad. Of course he was. But guess what made it worse? He thought he was to blame. One day, weeks ago, he had lost his temper and shouted at his dad. He thought this was why his dad was leaving.

As soon as he told his dad this, he gave him a big cuddle and told him not to be silly. Dad explained that things had changed between him and mum. He still loved mum but not in the same way and they had decided that everyone would be happier if they lived separately but of course still carried on being mum and dad forever.
